Family medicine and elderly care before the new hospital, recognition of both parents in same-sex families, and greater self-sufficiency on water supply. These were the main issues addressed by Libera’s Executive Board (Consiglio Direttivo), which met on Tuesday evening to take stock of several current topics.
Opening the meeting, Secretary Giulia Muratori highlighted the recent approval of the new family law, described in the party’s statement as “a comprehensive measure aimed at curbing the demographic decline affecting San Marino, while also providing concrete support to families.” According to Libera, the law acts on three fronts: financial support, services, and time available to parents.
Discussion then turned to healthcare. “We believe,” said Giulia Muratori, “that in the field of healthcare, the priority should be family medicine and strategies to address the needs of a community with a growing elderly population. The new hospital is undoubtedly a goal, but it certainly cannot be the only priority.”
For Libera, the ageing population therefore calls for greater investment in proximity medicine, chronic disease management and prevention, alongside a reorganisation of family medicine and facilities dedicated to elderly care. The party also noted the upcoming inauguration of the new Borgo Health Centre and the planned renovation of the one in Murata.
The stated goal is to transform the Health Centres into “Case della Salute” (Houses of Health), following a model that would encompass “prevention, health education, primary diagnosis, treatment and care.” According to Libera, such a reorganisation could also help ease waiting lists and reduce reliance on specialist visits.
Another topic addressed was the rights of same-sex parenting couples. “Libera believes that children’s rights must take precedence over any ideological consideration. To this end, it is absolutely necessary for the Republic of San Marino to recognise the right to have as parents the adults who make up the family, without discrimination based on sex,” the statement reads.
The Executive Board therefore mandated the party’s council group to support the proposals contained in several Arengo Petitions (Istanze d’Arengo) aimed at recognising both parents even when they are of the same sex.
Finally, the issue of water supply was raised. Libera referred to the strategy outlined by Secretary of State Alessandro Bevitori, which envisages investments both within San Marino’s territory and along the Marecchia river. “The assembly hopes that, in time for next summer, the Republic’s water capacity can be increased, putting an end to the recurring water emergencies,” the statement concludes.
