A delegation from GRETA, the Council of Europe’s Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, is in San Marino today for a roundtable dedicated to the measures adopted by the Republic and the steps still to be taken.
The meeting brings together institutions, public offices, police forces, the judiciary, the Social Security Institute (ISS), the education sector, the anti-violence network and the private sector. Discussions focus on preventing labour exploitation, assisting and protecting victims — including minors — and adopting a national strategy against trafficking.
The proceedings were opened by Secretaries of State Luca Beccari and Stefano Canti, together with GRETA’s Executive Secretary Petya Nestorova, who joined online. The aim is to assess progress made since GRETA’s third evaluation report and the subsequent recommendations from the Committee of the Parties.
“Today’s meeting organised by GRETA,” said Beccari, “offers a twofold opportunity: on one hand, it allows us to renew, within the Council of Europe, San Marino’s commitment to fighting one of the most brutal forms of human rights violations — human trafficking — and on the other, it enables us to take stock of what still needs to be done at the national level to counter, prevent and suppress any form of human trafficking.”
