Fortitudo Bologna defeated San Marino 7-1, throwing the Serie A Gold baseball championship semifinal wide open once again. After San Marino’s two victories on home soil on Mount Titano, Bologna capitalized on its double home stand to also claim game 4, leveling the series at 2-2.
The Bologna side set the tone immediately, scoring three runs in the first inning. San Marino responded in the second, with a double from Angulo and a single from Guevara making it 3-1. From that point on, however, San Marino’s offense struggled against a brilliant Bermudez, who kept the opposing lineup in check for the entire game.
Bologna extended its lead in the sixth inning when Celli drove in the run to make it 4-1, before putting the game out of reach in the eighth. Consecutive hits from Celli, Gamberini and Borghi allowed Fortitudo to add three more runs, sealing the final score at 7-1.
The standout performer was Bermudez, who pitched the entire game, delivering 131 pitches, 10 strikeouts and allowing just five hits.
The semifinal now essentially starts over. Game 5 is scheduled for Thursday, August 20 at 8 p.m., once again at the Gianni Falchi stadium in Bologna. The other semifinal series is also tied, with Macerata beating Parma 7-1 to level things at 2-2.
