San Marino has launched its 2026 flu vaccination campaign, run by the Institute for Social Security (ISS) under the patronage of the Department of Health and Social Security. The programme includes two walk-in open days with no booking required, four sessions for adults and an equal number of dedicated appointments for children.
“Protect yourself and your loved ones” is the slogan chosen to highlight the value of vaccination as a tool for both individual and collective prevention ahead of the season when respiratory viruses circulate most widely. “Protecting yourself from the flu means taking care of your own health and helping safeguard the most vulnerable,” the statement reads.
The vaccine is especially recommended for children up to age 6, pregnant women, healthcare workers, those over 60 and people with acute or chronic conditions.
“The flu vaccine is an important preventive tool, especially for those most exposed to the risk of complications,” says Pierluigi Arcangeli, director of the Social-Health Department. “In primary care, we see every day how important it is to act early, particularly to protect the elderly, young children, pregnant women and people with acute or chronic illnesses. Getting vaccinated means protecting your own health, but also helping to protect family members, the most fragile patients and the community as a whole.”
Special attention is being given to the youngest patients. “In young children, the flu can have a significant impact, especially in the presence of underlying vulnerabilities or other risk factors,” notes Nicola Ranieri, director of the Paediatrics Unit. “Vaccination is a preventive measure that should be carefully considered, including through discussion with the relevant healthcare professionals. That is why it is important for families to have access to clear information and to the pathways designed for children.”
The two open days, for which no booking is needed, will be held:
- 8 October 2026, from 9am to 4:30pm;
- 12 November 2026, from 9am to 4:30pm.
Both open days will take place at the vaccination clinic on level -1, staircase F, of the State Hospital, opposite the canteen.
Four vaccination sessions for adults are also scheduled, bookable through the CUP booking line at 0549 994889:
- 22 and 29 October 2026, from 9am to 4:30pm;
- 19 and 26 November 2026, from 9am to 4:30pm.
For children, dedicated appointments, also bookable through the CUP line, are scheduled for:
- 19 and 30 October 2026, from 2pm to 6pm;
- 20 and 27 November 2026, from 2pm to 6pm.
“Promoting flu vaccination means strengthening an essential preventive tool, especially to protect the most vulnerable and those who, due to age or health conditions, face greater risks,” said Massimo Andrea Ugolini, Secretary of State for Health and Social Security. “This campaign carries a simple but central message: individual protection also has collective value. As the Department of Health, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting prevention pathways that are accessible, clear and responsive to the needs of citizens.”

Protecting yourself from the flu also means helping to care for the community, with particular attention to the most vulnerable.”
