Satisfaction over the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union, coupled with a call for ongoing dialogue with institutions to manage the changes ahead. This is the position expressed by San Marino’s employers’ associations and trade unions in a joint statement signed by ANIS, OSLA, UNAS, USC, USOT, CSdL, CDLS and USL.
The eight organizations describe the signing as opening a new outlook for the economy and employment, paired with the need to prepare the country to implement the Agreement.
“The signing of the Agreement marks a significant step forward in strengthening relations with the European Union and opens new prospects for San Marino’s economic and production system, for businesses, for workers and for the entire community. The new social context and European legal framework will give us greater recognition and, as a result, more opportunities to attract new investment and business ventures.”
Alongside these opportunities comes the work needed to navigate the new European framework. The organizations stress the responsibility of institutions and social partners, calling for appropriate policies and continuity in dialogue.
“At the same time, the Agreement represents a challenge that will require commitment, responsibility and the ability to face the resulting changes with awareness, through appropriate policies and ongoing dialogue between institutions, economic organizations and workers’ representatives.”
The shared goal is to link European openness to economic growth, job quality and social cohesion.
“Our satisfaction over this important achievement goes hand in hand with an awareness of the work that remains to be done. The common goal must be to build a future in which European openness ensures a new phase of growth, economic progress, and stronger job quality and social cohesion.”
The associations and unions also pointed to the unity maintained throughout the negotiations: “Based on the cohesion demonstrated at both the social and economic level throughout these years of negotiations with Europe, we are confident that the country will find the strength and determination needed to turn these great opportunities into reality for the benefit of its community.”
The practical request concerns the Joint Committee (Commissione Mista), in whose work the organizations took part throughout the negotiation process.
“The Employers’ Associations and Trade Unions actively participated in the Joint Committee and are asking that this body be convened regularly to ensure the sharing of information and the consultation of social partners.”
