Restoring unused buildings and creating homes where people can share spaces and help one another in daily life. This was the focus of a meeting on cohousing in San Marino, promoted by the Secretariat of State for Territory. Secretary Matteo Ciacci updated attendees on regulatory developments, while architect Stefano Bassan explained how small urban renewal projects can pave the way for shared housing initiatives.
Doctor Carlo Renzini, president of the San Marino Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, highlighted the potential benefits for older people: living independently while maintaining a network of relationships and support can help counter loneliness and isolation.
Sylvia Colombini and Elia Cecchetti from the Piùdiunacasa group shared their experience in San Marino. Founded in December 2024, the group chose to focus first on getting to know one another and making shared decisions, leaving the construction details for later. Ahead of upcoming calls for proposals, the group is asking that project evaluations also take into account how well future residents are prepared to live together.
The next meeting will take place on October 19 at 8:30 pm, in the Montelupo hall in Domagnano. The Secretariat of State will present regulations and calls for proposals, with representatives from the Ecosol cohousing project in Fidenza and Solidaria San Giorgio in Ferrara also attending to share their experiences.
