In 2001, the Federazione Balestrieri Sammarinesi (San Marino Crossbowmen’s Federation) travelled to Villa di Serio, in the province of Bergamo, for the official inauguration of Palazzo dei Nobili Carrara, the town’s new municipal building. The invitation had come from the then-mayor, Mario Morotti.
Twenty-five years later, to mark the quarter-century anniversary of that building, the invitation arrived once again — and once more it bore Morotti’s signature. Now back in office as mayor since 2026, he specifically requested the presence of the San Marino delegation at the celebrations.
The trip took place on 19 and 20 September. On Saturday afternoon and evening, the delegation from Mount Titano took part in events organised by the municipal administration, bringing them to life with performances by flag-wavers, drummers, trumpeters and court dancers.
Sunday morning saw a procession wind through the streets of Bergamo’s historic centre amid colour and music.
It is a role the Federation has carried out for seventy years: bearing witness to the history and traditions of the Republic of San Marino beyond its borders, and making them known through events and trips abroad.
According to a statement from the Federation, the event was welcomed with great warmth by the local residents and authorities, offering yet another opportunity for exchange between San Marino and the Bergamo community.
The Federation extended its thanks to the mayor, the organisers and the entire community of Villa di Serio for their hospitality, expressing hope that such occasions for meeting again will soon be renewed.
