He set a fire just steps away from the pumps of a fuel station, risking extremely serious consequences. It happened in Gualdicciolo, where a 36-year-old man of Romanian origin, residing in Valmarecchia, was arrested by the Gendarmerie.
The alarm was raised by a citizen. A patrol in the vicinity intervened within minutes: while one officer put out the flames with a service extinguisher, his colleague restrained the suspect, preventing him from fleeing.
The 36-year-old was taken to headquarters and later transferred to the Cappuccini prison, where he was questioned by the magistrate. A decision on whether to validate the arrest is now pending.
The man, driving a car with Italian plates, was a regular customer at the fuel station. The reasons behind his actions remain unclear. Investigators are examining surveillance footage and collecting witness statements. Contacts with Italian authorities are also underway.
