San Marino: four-day week at Tiss’You, 32 hours for the same pay

Tiss'You cuts the working week from 37.5 to 32 hours without touching pay or rights, under a deal signed with CSdL and CDLS industry unions.

At Tiss’You, the working week is being cut from 37.5 to 32 hours, with no change to pay or rights. The move is set out in an agreement signed by the company with the industry federations of the CSdL and CDLS trade unions. The new schedule is spread over four days, Monday to Thursday, with some daily flexibility within the agreed time band.

The agreement takes effect from 1 November 2026 and runs until 31 December 2028, with tacit renewal year by year unless either party gives notice. Holidays, leave, public holidays, the thirteenth-month payment, seniority, pay increments and company bonuses will continue to be recognised at the same levels set out in the industry sector contract for the 37.5-hour week.

According to the unions, changes to work organisation allow the company to shorten working hours while still safeguarding production needs.

Paride Neri, secretary of the CDLS industry federation, sees the agreement as a starting point for discussions with institutions and social partners on how to share the benefits of organisational and technological progress. “We are aware that every company has its own characteristics, and that this experience cannot be automatically transferred to every production setting.”

Agostino D’Antonio, secretary of the CSdL industry federation, points out that reducing working hours has been a central issue in collective bargaining since the late 1990s. In the industrial sector, that process led to the 37.5-hour week, while in other sectors — particularly in care work — hours can still reach 48 a week.

“We hope this agreement, a pilot experience for San Marino, can pave the way for similar deals at other companies, under the same wage and regulatory conditions.”
