More than a hundred fans are expected today at San Marino’s Rose’n Bowl to watch the Mexican Grand Prix, a race that could hand Andrea Kimi Antonelli the Formula 1 world championship.
The twenty-year-old Mercedes driver, fresh off his win in Austin, has chosen to make his home on the Titano. The pub inside the bowling alley is one of the spots he frequents with friends in his downtime.
The evening gathering came together by word of mouth. Fans, friends and representatives of the Sammarinese government will all gather in front of the screens. Organisers are even considering setting up giant screens outside to accommodate a larger crowd.
Secretary of State for Sport Rossano Fabbri has promised gadgets and surprises, with the possibility of a live link-up with Imola and with the driver’s family in Mexico.
Massimo, the pub’s manager, spoke about the bond with Antonelli: “Kimi is the pride of San Marino, he’s a fantastic young man and his family is wonderful. We’re thrilled he comes to eat with us, and on Sunday many people will be watching his race right here in our venue.”
Meanwhile, Mattia Drudi, a racing driver and friend of Antonelli’s, will be watching the race from home, also in San Marino. He too acknowledges the connection between Kimi and the chosen meeting spot: “Kimi goes there often.”
