Truckers’ protest spreads across southern Italy, supermarket shelves left empty

Blockades and pickets by hauliers disrupt freight traffic and supplies in Basilicata, Calabria, Puglia and Sicily, hitting ports and retailers.

The truckers’ protest is spreading across southern Italy, with blockades and pickets causing disruption to the movement of goods and supply chains.

The mobilisation involves Basilicata, Calabria, Puglia and Sicily, where hauliers are continuing their demonstrations.

Ports have also been affected, with transport activities halted at the port of Naples and at Sicilian harbours.

The consequences are beginning to be felt in retail distribution as well. Shelves in some supermarkets are already empty, while the blockades risk further slowing deliveries of goods to points of sale.
