From balancing the books to relaunching the television lineup. The State Secretariats for Information and Telecommunications have drawn a positive assessment of the progress made by San Marino RTV under director general Roberto Sergio, and have announced that the schedules and projects for the new season will be presented on September 29.
“Today’s statement from San Marino RTV offers an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the great strides made by the state broadcaster under the leadership of Director General Roberto Sergio, thanks to the work of all the professionals at our television station,” reads the note signed by the two Secretariats.
The statement recalls the broadcaster’s financial situation before the current director general’s arrival. The 2023 budget closed with a loss of nearly two million euros, while forecasts for 2024 pointed to a further negative result of around one and a half million euros.
“A change of pace was needed, first and foremost on the management side,” the Secretariats stress. “With Roberto Sergio, San Marino RTV found a leader capable of combining editorial vision, experience and management skills. Within a few months the accounts were brought back into balance and, at the same time, a strong relaunch of the television offering began, supported by investment, innovation and new professional talent.”
The content of the upcoming season will be presented on September 29. According to the note, original productions will increase, along with the space dedicated to news, in-depth reporting and current affairs. Programs devoted to culture, music, entertainment and sport will also be strengthened, together with coverage of major events.
“Alongside San Marino RTV’s journalists and professionals, well-known figures from journalism, culture, entertainment, sport and television will be joining, as part of a particularly ambitious editorial plan,” the statement continues.
The stated goal is to consolidate San Marino RTV’s role as a public service broadcaster while simultaneously strengthening its presence beyond the Republic’s borders. “RTV is today a more modern, authoritative and recognizable broadcaster, capable of telling San Marino’s story, representing its identity and, at the same time, opening up increasingly to the outside world. This is the role of a modern public service: to be deeply rooted in one’s own country while also being able to compete in an increasingly broad and competitive media and television market.”
The Secretary of State for Telecommunications, Rossano Fabbri, chairman of ERAS, and the Secretary of State for Information, Federico Pedini Amati, deputy chairman of the authority, confirmed to Roberto Sergio “their personal appreciation, and that of the Institutions, for the work carried out and for San Marino RTV’s significant growth path.”
“The new season therefore represents not just a new schedule, but a further step in building a public broadcaster worthy of the Republic it represents,” the statement concludes. “See you on September 29, when the Institutions will make sure the entire San Marino RTV team feels their support and appreciation.”
