There’s barely been time to file away matchday three, and the San Marino championship is already set to return to the pitch. The fourth round of fixtures gets underway on Friday 18 September and runs through to Sunday 20, with eight matches spread across the weekend. Setting the tone right away will be one of the most intriguing pairings on the calendar: Tre Fiori-Virtus, kicking off Friday at 9:15pm at the Ezio Conti stadium in Dogana. On one side sits the league leader, still on a perfect record after three matchdays; on the other, the black-and-greens, currently fourth with seven points and likewise still unbeaten. Tre Fiori arrive with what is, for now, the league’s most potent attack, boasting three players already on three goals apiece. Standing in their way, however, will be a Virtus side that has yet to concede a single goal.
Two more matches will kick off at the same time. In Fiorentino, Libertas will host Faetano: the maroons need to bounce back after a 2-0 defeat to Virtus, while Faetano have collected just a single point and, more pressingly, are still searching for their first goal of the season. Over in Acquaviva, the spotlight falls on Murata-Cosmos. The Serravalle side arrive on the back of a resounding 6-1 win over Pennarossa, while Murata are still chasing consistency in this early part of the campaign.
The programme resumes on Saturday, with all matches kicking off at 3pm. Folgore, who share top spot with Tre Fiori and Tre Penne, will take on San Marino Academy at the Federico Crescentini stadium. The Academy have picked up two points from their opening three matches, but have shown encouraging signs of progress. In Domagnano, meanwhile, it’s Pennarossa-Fiorentino, a match that will also be broadcast on FIFA+. The white-and-reds are still stuck on zero points and boast the league’s most porous defence, while Fiorentino will look to build on their solid showing against La Fiorita.
And it’s precisely La Fiorita who will be among the most closely watched sides this round. In Acquaviva, against Domagnano, new head coach Andy Selva will take charge from the bench for the first time. The Montegiardino side are still hunting for their first win of the season and will look to shift gears against a Domagnano side that itself needs to respond after its latest setback.
Sunday belongs to Tre Penne, another of the league leaders, who travel to Acquaviva to face Juvenes Dogana. The blue-and-whites will look to extend their winning run, while Juvenes seek redemption after two straight defeats, the most recent coming in the derby. Rounding out the programme will be San Giovanni-Cailungo in Dogana, a particularly delicate contest for the red-and-greens, who remain on zero points and have found the net just once in their first three outings.
