A bridge between Monte Titano and Vicopisano has now become official. The Città di San Marino and Montegiardino have signed Friendship Pacts with the Municipality of Vicopisano, in the province of Pisa, putting into writing a relationship built over the past four years through meetings, visits and joint initiatives.
The signing took place on September 5th and 6th, during the XXIX Medieval Festival of Vicopisano, marking the culmination of a journey that began in 2022 with the first contacts between the Tuscan municipality and the two San Marino Castelli.
The agreement is rooted in the shared characteristics of the three territories: the promotion of history and traditions, the protection of cultural heritage and a strong connection to the land. The goal now is to turn the relationship developed over the years into concrete collaborations in culture, tourism, sport and territorial promotion, also involving associations, local organizations and citizens.
The agreement was first signed at the Municipal Palace of Vicopisano, in the presence of Mayor Matteo Ferrucci, Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Tourism Fabiola Franchi, the Captain of the Castle of the Città di San Marino Alberto Simoncini, and the Captain of the Castle of Montegiardino Giacomo Rinaldi. The moment was then celebrated publicly during the medieval dinner held in the square of the Palazzo Pretorio.
“The signing of the Friendship Pacts represents, for us, the natural culmination of a relationship that has grown over the years through mutual understanding and a shared desire to build genuine ties between our communities,” said Simoncini and Rinaldi. “In Vicopisano we found a warm welcome and a sensitivity very close to our own, especially in the way history, traditions and heritage are valued and preserved.”
“With these Pacts, we want to give this friendship a concrete future, creating opportunities for meetings and collaboration that involve not only institutions but also associations, cultural and sporting organizations, young people and citizens. This signing does not close a chapter — it opens a new one, which we hope will be rich in shared projects and experiences,” the two Captains of the Castle added.
A key role in bringing the two communities together was also played by Gianluca Tucci, Minister Plenipotentiary of the Republic of San Marino and General Director of the Naval Register, who followed the project from its earliest stages, fostering dialogue between the two sides.
During the ceremony, tribute was also paid to Francesco Tucci, a resident of Vicopisano who passed away prematurely, and who had believed in the project and in the possibility of bringing the two communities closer together.
With the signing now complete, the Città di San Marino and Montegiardino are turning their attention to the operational phase of the agreement, with the aim of developing opportunities for exchange, dialogue and joint initiatives — giving lasting continuity to a relationship that, after four years, has finally become official.
