The government led by Giorgia Meloni has become the longest-serving in the history of the Italian Republic. The milestone was highlighted by the Prime Minister herself, who on social media described the achievement as one to be welcomed with «gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility».
According to Meloni, however, the government’s longevity should not simply be seen as a record. «Stability is not a record to show off», she stated, but rather a tool that allows the country to plan, make decisions and honour its commitments. The Prime Minister went on to defend the work carried out on employment, support for families and businesses, security, public finances and Italy’s international standing, while acknowledging that «there is still much left to do».
In her remarks, Meloni also credited the government’s resilience to the cohesion of the ruling majority, noting that the three longest-serving executives in the history of the Republic have all been expressions of the centre-right. According to the Prime Minister, this stability stems from an alliance built on shared «values, objectives and a vision for the nation», rather than from a mere desire to keep opponents out of power.
Attention is already turning to the next general election. Meloni recalled the trust placed in her by Italians in 2022, insisting it was anything but «a blank cheque»: «Next year we will return before the citizens with what we have achieved, with what remains to be done, and with our vision for the future». In the evening, the Prime Minister will travel to Bari for an event with the Brothers of Italy community.
