The Statue of Liberty and the peregrine falcon take centre stage in San Marino’s latest gold numismatic issues. Poste San Marino has unveiled two 999.9‰ gold coins, available from Tuesday 8 September 2026, which respectively evoke the Republic’s institutional history and its natural heritage.
“Two subjects deeply tied to the Republic’s identity, chosen to grace two 999.9‰ gold coins, both in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish” – reads the statement from Poste San Marino.
The first issue has a face value of 20 euros, weighs a quarter of an ounce and is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. The work, donated to the Republic by German noblewoman Otilia Heyroth Wagener and carved from Carrara marble by sculptor Stefano Galletti, was inaugurated in 1876. It has now been chosen to represent on the coin San Marino’s values of independence and sovereignty.
“The female figure, depicted in classical dress, wears a turreted crown on her head, an element recalling the city and territory of San Marino. Her upright posture conveys pride and self-determination, while the presence of the flag completes the allegorical representation of the Republic’s liberty,” the statement reads.
The coin will be struck by the Austrian Mint in a run of just 750 pieces. It weighs 7.776 grams, has a diameter of 22 millimetres and bears the signatures of Antonella Napolione for the obverse and Kathrin Kuntner for the reverse.
The second issue continues the series launched in 2024 dedicated to the peregrine falcon, a bird of prey that nests on the cliffs of Monte Titano near the First Tower. Poste San Marino describes it as “a further representative element of San Marino’s natural heritage”. The coin has a face value of 10 euros, weighs 3.11 grams and will be minted in a run of 2,000 pieces. The obverse is again signed by Antonella Napolione, while the reverse is the work of Nina Schwarzer.
The two new gold coins will go on sale from 8 September at the Philatelic and Numismatic Shop at Piazzetta Garibaldi 5, in San Marino City, and through the official website of Poste San Marino.
