The third day of the Meeting of Rimini followed a Saturday marked by the visit of Pope Leo XIV. Sunday at the exhibition centre opened with Holy Mass presided over by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, president of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (Cei), who in his homily also reflected on the previous day’s encounter with the Pontiff.
“Let us thank the Lord for this Sunday, for these days, for yesterday’s meeting where we welcomed the successor of Peter, who freed us from what divides in order to bind us to the Lord, to the great harvest of this world and thus to one another. This bond is called communion, which is always dynamic and inclusive,” Zuppi said during the celebration.
The day continued with numerous events spread across the exhibition pavilions. Two halls are entirely dedicated to the Sport Village, where visitors can try out various disciplines and take part in camps organised with the Meeting’s partners, bookable through the event’s app.
Among the third day’s scheduled talks was one dedicated to “the provocation of the other in the digital age,” featuring Sergio Belardinelli, former professor of Sociology of Cultural Processes at the University of Bologna, and Eva Illouz, sociologist and director of the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris. The discussion centred on the relationship between human connection, artificial intelligence and digital platforms, and in particular on what aspects of romantic experience remain beyond the reach of algorithms.
Among the offerings at the fairgrounds is also “A Spass per la Romagna” (“Strolling Through Romagna”), featuring excursions to discover the region’s villages, fortresses, valleys and hills through a package that includes bus transport, guided tours, entertainment and tastings.
The exhibition programme also continues. In Piazza C1, visitors can see a display dedicated to Léon Harmel (1829-1915), a French industrialist regarded by historians as one of the pioneers in the concrete application of the Church’s social doctrine. This was among the exhibitions visited by Pope Leo XIV on Saturday during his time at the Meeting.
