Security checks have been stepped up on the Metromare line following a series of pickpocketing incidents reported by passengers. Rimini’s Border Police have arrested two men — an Italian and a Tunisian national, both with prior criminal records — believed to be responsible for stealing an elderly passenger’s wallet during a journey.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday, August 5, by officers from the Judicial Police Squad, who had been monitoring the Rimini–Riccione line for some time following reports of thefts, particularly targeting travelers headed to the airport.
According to investigators’ reconstruction of events, the pair struck near the Kennedy stop, deftly slipping the wallet from the victim’s pocket. Officers stationed aboard the train intervened immediately, apprehending both suspects. An off-duty officer from the Rimini Penitentiary Police also assisted in the operation.
On Thursday, August 6, the two men appeared before the Court of Rimini for an expedited trial. The judge upheld the arrests and ordered pre-trial detention for both suspects.
