The private project for Rimini’s new stadium is heading toward definitive rejection. The municipal government has begun proceedings to turn down the public-private partnership proposal, which called for the demolition and reconstruction of the Romeo Neri stadium.
The news was first reported by RiminiToday. After months of requests for additional documentation and extensions, Palazzo Garampi is said to have found what it considers substantial shortcomings in the material submitted. Among the issues cited are the incompleteness of the project itself and the situation of one of the two main financial backers, which has since gone into liquidation.
The engineer in charge of the proceedings, Chiara Fravisini, has therefore sent the group of companies behind the project a formal notice of intent to reject it. This is not yet the final decision: the proponents have ten days to submit their observations or provide further documentation.
The notice comes after the private consortium had requested at least another 90 days to complete the additional information requested by the administration.
In the meantime, however, the municipality is preparing an alternative route. According to RiminiToday, the plan is to proceed directly with the redevelopment of the stadium through a multi-year program funded by the municipal budget.
A complete change of scenario therefore appears to be taking shape for the Romeo Neri: with the private sector’s ambitious project shelved, it will now be Palazzo Garampi that draws up the new plan for the stadium, with the aim of defining its details by the end of the year.
