Riccione, shocking note found on restaurant order slip: «Burn the eggs and spit on them»

A family from Florence on holiday in Riccione discovered an offensive note meant for the kitchen printed on their breakfast order slip, sparking outrage online.

A perfectly ordinary request — asking for eggs cooked a bit more thoroughly — turned into a case that blew up on social media. It happened at a well-known restaurant on Viale Ceccarini in Riccione, where a family from Florence on holiday along the Riviera found a decidedly offensive note meant for the kitchen printed on their order slip: «This one’s really pissed me off… burn the eggs and spit on them».

The incident took place on the morning of August 19. On the order slip, printed shortly after 10am, the instructions «very cooked» and «no salad» had been added next to the scrambled eggs order. Right below, however, appeared the offensive remark. The family photographed the slip and later posted the image online along with a negative review.

According to the customers’ account, the woman had simply asked for the eggs to be cooked longer. Once they discovered the note, the family decided not to eat the dish, understandably unsettled by its contents, and reported the incident.

The matter quickly reached the restaurant’s management, which acknowledged the inappropriateness of the behaviour and issued a public apology. According to the establishment’s account, the note had been written by a 17-year-old waiter who had only been hired a few weeks earlier — a detail that, management stressed, does not diminish the seriousness of what happened.

The restaurant’s manager reportedly stepped in immediately to speak with the family and try to make amends. However, the two sides’ accounts do not fully match on certain details regarding the bill and what was offered to the customers. What remains is the note printed on the order slip — one that went viral online within hours, turning a simple holiday breakfast into a full-blown controversy.
