Athletics: Gulini sets national 200m record with 21.73 in Oregon

A new national record for San Marino comes from the track of the World U20 Championships in Oregon. The man behind it is Gian Marco Gulini, who ran the 200 metres in 21.73 seconds, setting a new San Marino record in the event.

The result came during the World U20 Athletics Championships, held from 7 to 9 August. Drawn into a high-level heat, Gulini was able to measure himself against some of the best young sprinters, using the pace of the race to push his personal and national best even further.

The performance rewards the young athlete’s ongoing development and carries particular significance for the entire blue-and-white sporting movement. Reaching a youth world championship is already a notable achievement for San Marino, and this time it was made even sweeter by the satisfaction of a national record.

The San Marino Athletics Federation highlighted the value of the result, ranking it among the summer’s most significant technical performances, and praised the work carried out within the youth sector.

Credit is also shared with Simone Savoretti, Gulini’s coach, who guided the sprinter through his preparation for the event in Oregon. For San Marino athletics, the 21.73 in the 200 metres now stands as a new benchmark to build on.
