The congress of European Democrat Students (EDS) concluded in Warsaw, bringing together European democratic and Christian-democratic youth movements on 31 July and 1 August. San Marino’s Christian Democratic Youth (Giovani Democratico Cristiani, GDC) were represented by secretary Emanuele Cangini and Sofia Ceccaroli.
Among the key outcomes of the assembly was the reconfirmation of Emanuele Cangini as EDS Financial Auditor, a role that, according to the GDC, confirms the credibility and standing the San Marino movement has earned within the European organization. The congress also saw the re-election of Francesco Sismondini of Studi Centro as president, marking his second term.
During the proceedings, the EDS bureau also expressed satisfaction at the approval of the Association Agreement between the Republic of San Marino and the European Union, describing it as a particularly significant step for the country’s future.
In their statement, the GDC also highlighted the political significance of the gathering, noting how dialogue among young Europeans serves as an important tool at a time marked by international tensions, economic difficulties and new challenges for democracy. “Warsaw was not just a congress trip. It confirmed that an international network built on democracy, freedom, solidarity and European integration is built by taking part, not by standing on the sidelines,” the statement reads, concluding with a call for young people to get actively involved: “What can I do, from here, for my country and for the Europe I want to live in?”
