More civic education, psychological support, and places where young people can meet. These are the requests put forward by Domani – Motus Liberi (D-ML), which is calling for San Marino to address the issue of youth discomfort and violence without limiting the discussion to public order alone.
The reflection stems from recent episodes of vandalism and clashes during demonstrations in Italy. The movement defends the right to protest, but draws a clear line between dissent and violent conduct, which it believes must first and foremost be tackled through prevention.
According to D-ML, schools should also teach respect for rules, conflict management, and individual responsibility. Hence the proposal to strengthen civic education, psychological support, and emotional literacy programmes.
This is a task that also involves families and adults, who are called upon to set a good example through their everyday behaviour.
The movement also reiterates its call for gathering spaces, sports facilities, study rooms, and cultural venues, recalling a motion it previously put forward that was already approved by the Grand and General Council (Consiglio Grande e Generale).
On the security front, D-ML stresses that those who commit acts of violence or vandalism must be held accountable, and calls for adequate staffing, training, and resources for law enforcement. Educational prevention and respect for the rule of law, it argues, must go hand in hand.
