Starting Monday, August 10, cross-border workers will be able to submit their sick leave certificates through Istanze On Line (IOL), San Marino’s Public Administration digital services portal, in addition to existing channels. The new feature applies to the “Social Security” (“Previdenza”) section and aims to make the process simpler, more traceable and more secure.
Thanks to the new system, users will be able to track the status of their request and receive any related communications directly within the platform. The goal is to reduce the drawbacks associated with email submissions—such as incorrect recipient addresses or incomplete attachments—while also ensuring greater protection of privacy.
To access the service, users must register on the gov.sm portal. For non-residents holding an Iss code, the procedure has been streamlined: registration can now be completed using SMaC data, without the need to present the identity documents previously required.
In this initial phase, a dual-channel system will remain in place: certificates can still be sent via email as well, allowing for a gradual transition to the digital format.
The initiative affects roughly 3,000 cases per month and marks a further step forward in the digitalization of administrative services in the Republic of San Marino.
