San Marino’s banks and financial system are under political scrutiny. The Standing Finance Committee of the Grand and General Council (Commissione consiliare permanente Finanze) convenes today, Friday 25 September, at the Kursaal Congress Centre, with the morning’s centerpiece being the hearing of the Central Bank of the Republic of San Marino.
The session is scheduled from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Proceedings will open to the public with initial communications, but it is the second part of the sitting that is drawing the most attention: the doors will close for the Central Bank hearing, which has been placed on the agenda as a secret session.
According to the official notice, the goal is to provide the Commission with “updates regarding San Marino’s financial and banking system.” The hearing will be followed by debate among committee members. The agenda does not specify in further detail which individual topics will be addressed during the discussion.
The meeting involves the Commission responsible for Finance, Budget and Planning, Crafts, Industry, Commerce, Tourism, Services, Transport and Telecommunications, Labour and Cooperation, chaired by Silvia Cecchetti, with Sara Conti as vice-chair.
