Burglars took advantage of the owners’ absence to break into their home and get their hands on the safe. The theft was discovered by an elderly couple from Rimini upon returning from a week-long vacation. The break-in took place on Via Climene, a side street off Viale Principe Amedeo, with the stolen goods estimated at least €30,000 in cash and valuables.
The husband and wife noticed what had happened once they returned home. Everything in the rooms appeared to be in order, but when they checked the safe, they found it had been opened and completely emptied out.
The owner, an 84-year-old man, called the police. Patrol officers responded to the scene, followed by the forensic team for evidence collection and the Mobile Squad (Squadra Mobile) to lead the investigation.
What makes the burglary particularly puzzling is the absence of any signs of forced entry on doors or windows. The house also has no alarm system or security cameras installed. Among the theories being investigated is the possibility that whoever entered had access to a copy of the keys.
It also remains unclear exactly when the burglary took place: the couple was away from Rimini for about a week, and investigators have not yet been able to pinpoint the exact day of the break-in.
