San Marino, citizens and trade bodies gather at Kursaal to watch signing of EU agreement

Citizens and representatives of economic and social organizations gathered at the Kursaal to follow live coverage of the signing of the Association Agreement between San Marino and the European Union. The October 19 event was followed by a message from the Captains Regent, on a day that opens a new chapter in relations between the Republic and the European single market.

The gathering in San Marino accompanied the ceremony at the Berlaymont building in Brussels, where Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari and Maroš Šefčovič, on behalf of the European Commission, signed the agreement at the conclusion of the negotiating process.

“The strong turnout of citizens and representatives of economic and social organizations, gathered in the Kursaal Hall to follow the live broadcast from the EU institutions and the subsequent message from Their Excellencies the Captains Regent, reflects the collective awareness with which the country is embracing this milestone,” reads a statement from the Congress of State.

The Government expressed its appreciation to Beccari, the Secretariat of State for Foreign Affairs, and the diplomatic and technical staff involved in the negotiations. “The dedication shown by the diplomatic and technical apparatus made it possible to reach a solid agreement, one capable of balancing the Republic’s unique characteristics with the rules of the European framework,” the executive stated, extending its thanks to the institutions, officials, and political and social stakeholders who contributed to the process.

Following the signing, work now begins on aligning domestic legislation and guiding businesses toward the European internal market. The Congress of State outlined the road ahead: “The agreement signed in Brussels represents a starting point, not a final destination. For the executive, this opens an operational and complex phase of regulatory alignment, directive transposition, and support for the economic system in its transition toward the internal market.”

The stated goal is to safeguard the Republic’s autonomy while opening new opportunities for young people and for the economic and financial system. Further institutional steps are expected in the coming days, including before the Grand and General Council (Consiglio Grande e Generale), as the process launched with the signing of the agreement moves forward.
