Fibromyalgia added to Italy’s essential care levels, association calls for same step in San Marino

Italy's updated essential care levels now recognise fibromyalgia, exempting severe cases from co-pays. The FSM association "La Fibromialgia a San Marino" welcomes the move and urges San Marino to follow suit.

The update to Italy’s Essential Levels of Care (Livelli Essenziali di Assistenza, LEA) has been published in the Italian Official Gazette, bringing with it official recognition of fibromyalgia and exemption from co-payments for its most severe forms. The FSM association “La Fibromialgia a San Marino” has welcomed the news with enthusiasm and is now calling for the same step to be taken on the Titano. Below is the full press release.

The association La Fibromialgia a San Marino expresses its great joy and deep satisfaction at the publication, on 30 September, in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic, of the updated Essential Levels of Care (LEA) — a highly significant step toward the recognition and protection of people living with fibromyalgia.

This achievement marks an important step forward on both the institutional and social fronts, opening new prospects for the many people affected by the condition, for whom associations and citizens alike have long called for greater attention, recognition and protection.

La Fibromialgia a San Marino wishes to extend its most sincere congratulations to CFU-Italia, recognising in this milestone the culmination of a long and steady effort — social and institutional alike — carried forward with determination, sensitivity and perseverance.

The result achieved underscores just how vital the role of associations is in representing people’s needs and fostering constructive dialogue with institutions, so that the concerns of those living with fibromyalgia every day can find concrete answers.

“Today is a day of great joy for the entire Italian community of people living with fibromyalgia. We want to share this satisfaction and extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone whose work and dedication helped achieve this important result,” said the association La Fibromialgia a San Marino.

This milestone is not just a destination but also a new starting point: the hope is that this recognition will translate into greater healthcare attention, adequate care pathways and a better quality of life for all those affected by fibromyalgia — and that this gesture of attention will soon reach San Marino from Italy as well.

La Fibromialgia a San Marino therefore renews its congratulations to CFU-Italia for the result achieved and confirms its readiness to continue, in San Marino too, the path of awareness, information and protection for people living with fibromyalgia. Because recognising the rights of people with fibromyalgia is a step toward a more attentive, inclusive and aware society.
