The Christian Democratic Party (Democrazia Cristiana, Dc) is moving to re-engage directly with its grassroots membership, scheduling the Consulta delle Sezioni — an assembly open to party members — for October 24. The gathering will be preceded by a series of meetings focused on major political themes. The news was reported by San Marino RTV, which relayed the indications given by party leadership following the lengthy council session in September.
The process will kick off with two meetings, tomorrow evening and on October 7, involving Secretaries of State, internal party bodies, the Central Council, local sections, working groups and the youth movement. On the agenda will be healthcare, social security, the Association Agreement with the European Union, institutional reforms, economic development, the environment and education.
According to party secretary Gian Carlo Venturini, the goal is to strengthen internal dialogue and gather ideas that can later be turned into concrete proposals and legislative measures. The Pdcs, which has around 1,500 members, has identified the implementation of the government’s programme and the obligations tied to the EU Agreement — following its signing, expected on October 19 — among its priorities for the coming months.
On the institutional front, the reform of the Council’s Rules of Procedure (Regolamento consiliare) also remains an open matter. Group leader Manuel Ciavatta defended the work carried out during the September session, while Oscar Mina highlighted the changes designed to make parliamentary proceedings more efficient: greater use of committees in a drafting capacity, the introduction of alternate members, and increased transparency in sessions. Among the most debated points is a mechanism that, after 25 hours of debate, would allow an absolute majority to close the amendment phase on pending measures.
Finally, the Dc returned to the subject of the family law, which has been published and is set to take effect on September 28. Aida Maria Selva highlighted in particular the measures on leave, maternity, parenthood, family caregivers, and work-life balance.
