The schools designed by engineer Gilberto Rossini have found their way onto postage stamps. The new Poste San Marino issue, titled “Scuole per una comunitĂ ” (“Schools for a community”), was presented today during an official Audience before the Captains Regent Alice Mina and Vladimiro Selva.
The souvenir sheet celebrates Rossini’s work, a key figure in the transformation of San Marino’s public spaces. His schools were never conceived as mere buildings, but as open spaces built around children’s needs, capable of engaging in dialogue with nature and the surrounding landscape.
The stamp and the three accompanying labels depict the Cailungo nursery school, the Murata primary school and the Cà Caccio school — the latter shown through an image of the construction site. Over the years, these structures have become woven into the everyday life of the San Marino community.
Attending the Audience were the Secretary of State for Territory Matteo Ciacci, the leadership of Poste San Marino, Director Gian Luca Amici, and Rossini himself. The Captains Regent highlighted the value of schools as spaces of growth and future potential, while Ciacci noted that these works represent an architectural heritage belonging to the whole country.
Rossini headed the State Technical Office (Ufficio tecnico statale) from 1961 to 1996 and also worked on major public projects, from the Cinema Teatro Turismo to the church of Borgo Maggiore, built to a design by Giovanni Michelucci.
The issue is available starting today, Monday, 21 September, and comes with a QR code granting access to the documentary “Un’idea di CittĂ ” (“An Idea of a City”) by Massimo Salvucci, dedicated to the works of the San Marino engineer.
