Thefts and scams in San Marino, five cases in a matter of days: copper stolen from new stadium site too

Scams, car break-ins, home burglaries and a copper theft from a construction site: five reports filed with the Gendarmerie in just a week.

Five incidents within the space of a week, involving scams, car break-ins, home burglaries and copper stolen from a construction site. That is the picture emerging from the reports filed in recent days with the San Marino Gendarmerie, according to San Marino RTV.

The most serious case comes from Acquaviva, where the so-called “fake gendarme” scam succeeded. A woman was first contacted by phone by a man claiming to be a member of the Corps. She was told that the following day she would receive a visit from a military officer and a magistrate for an alleged inspection of jewelry kept at home.

The visit did indeed take place, in broad daylight. The woman had jewelry, cash and a debit card taken from her, which was later used to withdraw a further 500 euros.

Two cars were also targeted. On the night of September 10, in the car park of the Multieventi center in Serravalle, a laptop left inside a vehicle disappeared, although no signs of forced entry were found on the car. In Montegiardino, meanwhile, the window of another parked car on Via del Progresso was smashed, but there were no valuables inside.

Also in Montegiardino, on the evening of September 13, thieves broke into a home on Strada del Poggio. When the owners returned, they found rooms and furniture ransacked. The haul appears to have been limited to a few modest pieces of jewelry, including silver chains.

Finally, at the construction site of the new football stadium in Serravalle, between Via Rancaglia and Via Olnano, a report was filed for the theft of a large quantity of copper. The Gendarmerie carried out an inspection at the site in the late afternoon of September 14.
