Futsal referees head back to school before the season kicks off at San Marino Stadium

Referees gathered for a pre-season training session ahead of the new futsal championship.

Final preparations were also underway for referees ahead of the new season. Last Saturday, the San Marino Stadium hosted the pre-season gathering of San Marino’s futsal refereeing corps, on the eve of the championship’s opening matchday.

Proceedings were opened by the president of the San Marino Referees Association (Associazione Sammarinese Arbitri), Marcello Busignani. Also in attendance were the vice president of the Five-a-Side Football Division, Andrea Farabini, AIA’s deputy technical director Andrea Sabatini, and Alessandro Malfer, commissioner of the CAN 5 Élite. Francesco Massini, AIA’s deputy vice president, took part remotely via video link.

During the session, Massimo Nanni outlined the guidelines for the 2026-27 season, with particular focus on match management and on-field conduct. Referees then put their knowledge to the test with a video quiz covering various regulatory scenarios.

There was also room for discussion on handling protests, reading the game, prevention strategies, and DOGSO and SPA situations, as well as the application of the advantage rule and the “wait and see” principle. Representatives of the San Marino Football Federation also attended to greet participants, including president Marco Tura and secretary general Luigi Zafferani.
