Two days of competition between San Marino and Marina di Ravenna for the ninth edition of the Dodgeball Festival, scheduled for Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September. Following last year’s success, the event once again spans two locations, moving from the courts of Wonderbay to the sands of the Ravenna coastline.
The festival will kick off on Saturday 5 September in San Marino, with matches running throughout the day at Wonderbay. A celebration bringing together athletes, coaches and organisers is planned once the games are over. “After last year’s success, the event once again brings together two territories and two different ways of experiencing dodgeball,” the organisers said in a statement.
Launched in 2017, the Dodgeball Festival reaches its ninth edition this year, mirroring the growth of a sport rooted in the traditional Italian game of “palla prigioniera” and now played and regulated internationally.
The event will also carry an international flavour. “Athletes are expected from Austria, Malaysia, England, Italy and Eastern Europe, confirming the international scope the festival has achieved and its ability to build connections through sport,” the organisers report.
Entries are also open to young people from San Marino who want to try the sport. Participants can take part either by forming a team with friends or by signing up individually. “A chance to try a new sport and experience the festival firsthand on the field,” the statement notes.
On Sunday 6 September, the setting will change: the festival will move to the beach at Marina di Ravenna, where teams will face off on the sand for the second day of competition.
The event is organised by San Marino Welcome together with the World Dodgeball Federation, Dodgeball Festival, FIGeST and Ravenna Diablos. It has also received patronage from the Secretariat of State for Sport of the Republic of San Marino.
“The festival is not just a competition, but an opportunity to attract new players, build a community and generate positive outcomes for the host territories,” the statement concludes.
