The future of Banca di San Marino is once again at the heart of political debate. Opposition committee members Sara Conti and Nicola Renzi (Rf), Gaetano Troina (Dml) and Emanuele Santi (Rete) have asked committee chair Silvia Cecchetti to urgently convene the Finance Committee (Commissione Finanze) by September 15.
The request aims to bring in representatives of the Government and the Central Bank’s leadership to provide an update on the state of the banking system and, above all, on the prospects for Bsm. The initiative follows remarks made during the Council debate, in which several Secretaries of State referred to the need to prepare a possible “Plan B” should the sale of the institute fall through.
The opposition is therefore calling for more information on the operations currently underway, complaining that in recent months there has been a lack of sufficient updates on how the situation is evolving.
Meanwhile, the process involving the Ente Cassa di Faetano continues, with the fund confirming ongoing negotiations with Hera Partecipazioni One Spa over a possible acquisition of the bank. The scenario, however, remains open: reports suggest that additional expressions of interest have come in, and these are currently being examined by the Ente’s board.
