Pope Leo XIV between San Marino and Rimini: a day of institutions, the Meeting and the faithful

The full schedule for the pastoral visit set for Saturday 22 August, from Palazzo Pubblico to the Meeting and the seafront Mass.

A day divided between San Marino and Rimini, featuring institutional meetings, moments of prayer and gatherings with the faithful. Pope Leo XIV‘s pastoral visit is set for Saturday, 22 August, taking in the Republic of the Titan, the Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples, and finally the centre of Rimini.

The Pontiff will depart at 8am from the Vatican heliport and land around 9am at the Torraccia airfield. From there he will head to Piazza della Libertà for military honours and his entrance into Palazzo Pubblico alongside the Captains Regent. After being introduced to the Secretaries of State, a private conversation is planned, along with the signing of the guest book of honour and a meeting in the Hall of the Grand and General Council (Consiglio Grande e Generale).

One of the most anticipated moments will come at 11.15am, when Leo XIV will appear on the balcony of Palazzo Pubblico to greet and bless the faithful. He will then make his way to the Basilica of San Marino, where he will be welcomed by the Bishop of San Marino-Montefeltro, Monsignor Domenico Beneventi, for a moment of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament and veneration of the Saint’s relics.

A strictly private visit is also scheduled with the Augustinian nuns of the Sant’Antonio da Padova monastery in Pennabilli. The farewell to Sammarinese authorities is set for 12.45pm.

In the afternoon, the Pope will travel to Rimini, landing at the Fiera heliport to take part in the Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples. He will visit exhibitions dedicated to Saint Augustine and Léon Harmel, greet participants at the Children’s Village, and join the gathering in the Grande Auditorium.

The visit will then continue in the heart of the city. At 5.30pm in the Cathedral, Leo XIV will meet with the sick, people with disabilities, and those in need supported by Caritas.

The day will close in grand style by the sea: at 6.30pm, in the square outside Rimini’s port, the Pontiff will preside over the Eucharistic concelebration, an event expected to draw thousands of the faithful. After bidding farewell to the authorities, his helicopter departure for the Vatican is scheduled for the evening, with arrival in Rome around 9pm.
