From today until September 15, it is forbidden to burn plant, agricultural and forestry waste outdoors in San Marino. The measure was set out in an ordinance issued by the Civil Protection Service and the Fire Prevention Section of the Civil Police to reduce the risk of wildfires during a period marked by high temperatures, scarce rainfall, severe dryness and wind conditions favourable to the spread of flames.
The ban specifically covers the burning of grass cuttings, pruning waste and other residue from clearing land and green areas. The measure reinforces the provisions already adopted with the activation of the fire-risk attention phase, in force since June 22.
Anyone who fails to comply with the ordinance faces an administrative fine ranging from €500 to €1,500, in addition to possible criminal consequences provided for by law in more serious cases.
Authorities are also urging citizens to promptly report any smoke, hotspots or fires by calling 115 or the number 0549 888888. The aim is to prevent, as far as possible, the outbreak of fires during a summer made especially critical by high temperatures and prolonged drought.
