Elia Rossi could be set for a change of role within the staff of the Secretary of State for Industry, Rossano Fabbri, following his appointment on 14 July as provincial commissioner of Forza Italia in Pesaro Urbino. The new political post, which came after the party’s provincial leadership was reshuffled, requires an increasing commitment on the ground.
According to San Marino RTV, Rossi could therefore step down as Fabbri’s private secretary, while continuing to collaborate with the Secretariat of State in an advisory capacity. For his possible replacement, the name of former councillor Alessandro Mancini is circulating, though for now only as speculation. Any such reshuffle could take shape once political activity fully resumes.
Rossi is also mayor of Monte Grimano Terme, and it was precisely the overlap of his various roles that had previously drawn criticism from San Marino’s opposition parties.
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also weighed in on Rossi’s position, describing him at the Meeting di Rimini as «an opportunity for the Republic of San Marino». According to Tajani, the mayor of an Italian municipality bordering the Titano can serve as «a good bridge» between San Marino and Italy, not least thanks to his ties with the government in Rome.
For the Foreign Minister, then, Rossi’s political affiliation in Italy is no obstacle, and his collaboration with the San Marino government can help strengthen bilateral relations between the two states.
