San Marino recorded 1,077,213 visitors between June and September 2026, a 1.52% dip compared with the same period in 2025. Arrivals at accommodation facilities, however, rose by 4.4%, while overnight stays increased by 2.98%. These are the key findings of the summer season, presented this morning in the Mauro Maiani conference room at the State Secretariat for Tourism by Federico Pedini Amati, the head of the Tourism Office Nicoletta Corbelli, and the director of the Tourism Department Filippo Francini.
The Secretariat described a trend that confirms the results of previous seasons: “Over the four summer months, 1,077,213 visitors reached San Marino, a trend clearly in line with previous seasons that puts us on track to once again surpass the 2-million mark (-1.52% compared with the same period in 2025).” The statement specifies that visitors arriving via the public bus link from Rimini must be added to this figure: “To the above data should be added the 349,241 visitors who reached San Marino by scheduled bus. This reflects the health of Rimini airport and the tendency to choose public transport during this period of fuel-price pressures.”
The flow data comes from the Statistics Office, while figures on arrivals and stays at accommodation facilities are drawn from the guest registration system. From the year-end press conference onward, the analysis method will change: data from the ParkIT camera system will be used, and passenger figures from the Rimini–San Marino bus line – not counted until now – will be included.
Cable car usage declined. “The cable car recorded a particularly negative result, losing nearly 15% of its passengers. This is due to higher ticket prices and the long-term closure of the Baldasserona car park for works,” the statement reads.
On the hospitality front, arrivals also rose compared with 2024. The note states: “Over the four summer months, arrivals at San Marino’s accommodation facilities increased by 4.4% compared with 2025 and by 3.35% compared with 2024. The number of nights also grew: +2.98% compared with 2025.”
Foreign guests once again outnumbered Italian ones, as in previous summers. Italians account for 45% of tourists who stayed overnight in the Republic. Among European visitors, Germany leads with 11.2%, followed by the Netherlands at 4.5%, the United Kingdom at 3.5%, Poland at 2.7%, and France and Austria, both at 2.6%. Americans make up 3.3% of visitors – around two thousand tourists – while a further 10% comes from China, Brazil, Canada, Australia and Japan.
Average stays are longer at non-hotel accommodations. “The average length of stay in San Marino is growing thanks to non-hotel accommodations, which tourists choose for an average of 2.4 nights. In hotels, the average stay is 1.56 nights,” the Secretariat notes.
Figures recorded through the SMAC system in the historic centre also rose. Retail businesses saw summer growth of 5.28% compared with 2025, while accommodation and catering businesses posted a 6.79% increase. The period considered for tourist tax revenue differs: “The tourist tax figure refers to the first six months of the year rather than the summer period, and is perfectly in line with 2025 revenue.”
As for the Treno Bianco Azzurro (Blue and White Train), whose new route was inaugurated on 29 June, 263 trips were made over 38 days of operation up to 30 September. “In total, 3,284 visitors boarded, averaging almost 90 visitors per day.”
