New life is coming to the Mulino Reffi, in the Canepa area. The historic building will undergo a restoration and recovery project aimed at preserving one of the lasting traces of the Republic of San Marino’s rural past.
The mill stands along one of the best-known and most frequented trails among both San Marino residents and tourists, just a short distance from the picturesque Canepa waterfall — a place where nature and history meet, still bearing the marks of the ancient milling activity that once took place there.
The first step toward its restoration came with the resolution passed by the Congress of State on 30 July, which gave its favorable opinion for entrusting the project to surveyor Luca Mancini.
The Mulino Reffi tells an important chapter in the history of the San Marino countryside. To learn more, we visited the site together with historian Verter Casali, retracing the story of an activity that for centuries played a central role in the community’s daily life. Since the first half of the twentieth century, the mills in the area have gradually fallen out of use, leaving behind structures that today stand as a historical heritage worth preserving and enhancing.
