San Marino’s historic debut in the Nations League C ended in a heavy 7-0 defeat to Finland. At the Stadium in Serravalle, the visitors took the lead after just five minutes through Pohjanpalo and doubled their advantage before half-time with goals from Svanbäck and Källman.
Roberto Cevoli’s side tried to hit back on the counter-attack, creating a chance through Nanni and Lorenzo Capicchioni, but failed to find the net. Early in the second half, Walta struck twice within five minutes. Shortly after his first goal, San Marino were reduced to ten men following the direct red card shown to Golinucci, confirmed after a VAR review.
In the closing stages, Pohjanpalo completed his hat-trick, scoring in the 79th minute and again from the penalty spot in the 88th. The match also marked the senior national team debut of 2007-born Della Balda. San Marino will return to action next Tuesday evening, once again at Serravalle, when they face Albania.
