San Marino: photobook “Crisalidi” opens the ASFA festival

Giancarlo Frisoni's photobook on breast cancer survivors launches the 35th edition of "Incontro con l'Autore" in Dogana.

The presentation of “Crisalidi,” a photobook by Giancarlo Frisoni, opened the 35th edition of the ASFA festival “Incontro con l’Autore” (Meeting the Author) on Friday, November 6, at the Centro Sociale in Dogana. The festival is dedicated to photography and storytelling through images.

The volume, published by Pazzini, grew out of an exhibition project staged in the deconsecrated church of Santa Maria ad Nives in Rimini, in collaboration with the breast cancer patients’ association “Crisalide.”

At the heart of the evening were testimonies from women who have faced breast cancer. Photographs, autobiographical readings and personal accounts guided the audience through the hardships of diagnosis, treatment, and the physical and emotional changes brought on by the illness.

Above all, the book tells the story of personal rebuilding — from initial fear to the search for a new sense of balance. The chrysalis becomes a symbol of this transformation, marked by pain but also by the strength to start anew.

Solidarity among women takes center stage, supported by the work of the Rimini-based association Crisalide, which is committed to prevention, psychological support and helping patients recover after surgery.

The evening kicked off the ASFA festival’s calendar, which will run until December 4, 2026, with five meetings in total, held every Friday at 9 p.m., each dedicated to a different author or photographer.
