Rallylegend under tight security: drones, cameras and checks deployed

Reinforced patrols, a control room and new technology aim to prevent a repeat of last year's incidents during the San Marino motorsport event.

Drones over the route, cameras across the territory and reinforced patrols during evening hours. Rallylegend is stepping up its security measures, deploying a system that combines law enforcement, organizational staff and real-time monitoring tools to track what happens in the areas affected by the event.

The measures were outlined by San Marino Rtv, which detailed the plan drawn up for the event, running until Sunday. Particular attention has been paid to preventing a repeat of last year’s incidents, when firecrackers thrown into the crowd caused injuries and sparked fires in the area.

The coordination hub is based at the Multieventi Sport Domus, next to the Rally Village. Here, a control room has been set up where operators appointed by the organization work alongside the gendarmerie and civil police. From this point, the route and the areas most crowded with spectators are monitored, allowing checks and interventions to be coordinated.

According to Rtv, the entire staff of both corps is deployed throughout the days of the event, with support from the Guard of the Rock. Evening patrols and ground checks have been strengthened. A firefighting team is also on standby, along with coordination with the fire brigade and the deployment of volunteer militia to manage traffic.

Along the route, the security setup includes 12 vehicles, 350 marshals and 120 stewards. The latter, coordinated by the gendarmerie, have increased by 20-30% compared to last year. Their task is to manage the crowd while staying in contact with the control room and sector managers. Race director Mauro Zambelli, speaking in the broadcaster’s report, explained that this link allows staff on the ground to communicate directly with those overseeing operations from race control.

Technology also plays a key role in the plan. Four drone operator-pilots are on duty, using devices capable of communicating with the public via audio and operating even in adverse weather conditions.

On the ground, eight cameras have been positioned, able to be repositioned depending on how the stages unfold. These are complemented by dashcams mounted on the cars, bodycams worn by operators, and 360-degree cameras fitted on vehicle roofs. The footage allows the route to be followed in real time and enables faster coordination of interventions.

The tightened controls come alongside a series of bans. Explosive devices, chainsaws and motorized equipment are prohibited, with fines that can reach 2,000 euros. In the areas affected by the event, alcohol sales will also be banned from 9 pm to 3 am, as reported by San Marino Rtv.

Finally, the Institute for Social Security (Iss) reminds that the sale and serving of food and beverages is reserved exclusively for authorized operators. The overall set of measures aims to protect spectators, crews, event staff and local residents.
