At the Political Assembly of the European People’s Party (EPP), held in Toulouse on 28 and 29 September, delegates approved a proposed amendment to the party’s statute that would allow the Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party (PDCS) to become an associate member: the final vote will be cast at the EPP Congress, scheduled to take place in Rome in March 2027. A delegation from the Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party (Partito Democratico Cristiano Sammarinese, PDCS) — made up of Political Secretary Gian Carlo Venturini, PDCS Head of International Relations Lorenzo Bugli, and GDC Head of International Relations Sara Marinelli — took part on 28 and 29 September in the Political Assembly of the European People’s Party, held in Toulouse at the Centre de Congrès Pierre Baudis.
The two days brought intense work of considerable political weight. Opened by addresses from EPP President Manfred Weber and Secretary General Dolors Montserrat, along with a welcome from Les Républicains leader Bruno Retailleau, the Assembly focused on the reindustrialisation of Europe and the defence of European businesses against unfair competition from third countries, adopting the EPP’s document on competitiveness. These are issues that closely affect San Marino’s own productive fabric, and they confirm just how directly European decisions shape the lives of our citizens and businesses.
The most significant moment for the PDCS came on the second day: the Political Assembly approved the proposed amendment to the statute that will be put to a vote at the next EPP Congress, scheduled to be held in Rome in March 2027, and which will allow the PDCS to become an associate member of the European centre-right family. This marks a historic milestone for the party, which has held observer status within the EPP since 1998, and represents the concrete outcome of a path pursued in recent years.
This is a development that concerns not only the party, but the entire country. As San Marino continues its own process of association with the European Union, the PDCS confirms its role as a protagonist on the European stage — present where decisions are made and able to carry the Republic’s voice into the largest political family on the continent. An authoritative voice, in service of Sammarinese citizens and businesses, aimed at addressing and solving their problems with the tools and relationships that only Europe can offer.
The work now continues on the road to Rome: the PDCS will keep building, with seriousness and determination, its role within the shared home of Europe’s centre-right parties.
