Giochi del Titano scandal, DML: “It’s time for a clean break”

Domani – Motus Liberi calls on San Marino’s political forces and society to take a stand, leaving fact-finding to the judiciary but denouncing a system it says has damaged the Republic’s reputation.

Domani – Motus Liberi has spoken out on the Giochi del Titano affair, calling on San Marino’s political forces and civil society to take a clear stance. In a statement issued on 4 October, the movement leaves it to the judiciary to establish the facts and responsibilities, but criticizes a political system it believes has damaged the Republic’s reputation.

“The latest case involving Giochi del Titano, on which it will be up to the judiciary to establish the facts and responsibilities, adds to a sequence of episodes that continue to drag San Marino into a spiral of scandals, suspicions and reputational damage,” the statement reads.

The movement’s position is unequivocal: “We say enough. We can no longer pretend that this isn’t an internal problem.” DML distances itself from a style of political management that, in its view, has linked San Marino’s name to private interests and murky dealings rather than to the work and abilities of its citizens.

“This is not our San Marino. And this is not the kind of politics we represent,” the movement states, outlining the model of country it wants to promote: “We want a country capable of competing, attracting serious investment and building an international reputation founded on credibility, transparency and respect for the rules. And through our record in government, we have shown that this is possible when there is the will to do it!”

The central point of the statement concerns the call for a clear separation between two opposing ways of understanding the role of institutions. “That is why we need a clear dividing line: on one side, those who still see the State, institutions and laws as tools to be bent to serve a system’s interests; on the other, those who want to return them to the citizens and to the common good.”

The appeal is addressed to parties, trade associations, unions and citizens, with a specific call to young people. “We have chosen which side we stand on. And we ask all political forces, trade associations, unions, citizens — and especially young people who want to believe in a different San Marino — to do the same.”

DML finally urges everyone to take a position without being swayed by favors or intimidation. The statement closes by reaffirming the purpose of the initiative: “Without ambiguity. Because the time for excuses is over.”
