General Maurizio Faraone is preparing to leave his post as commander of the Gendarmerie Corps of San Marino, stepping down somewhat ahead of the natural retirement date set by age limits. Confirmation came directly from the commander in a statement released today, 1 September.
The statement follows a report published on Monday, 31 August, by La Serenissima Sera. “With reference to the article published yesterday, Monday 31 August, in ‘La Serenissima Sera’, I feel it is important to clarify that a few days ago I did indeed express to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs my wish to bring forward, somewhat ahead of the natural age-related retirement date, the end of my long, intense, prestigious and rewarding experience at the helm of the Gendarmerie Corps,” Faraone writes.
The handover, however, will not be immediate. The general has assured that he will remain in office for as long as necessary to allow for an orderly succession at the head of the Corps, “duly confirming my availability, with unconditional commitment and the same passion, for the time needed to ensure continuity until the change of command takes place,” the statement reads.
Faraone closes the statement with a note of thanks to San Marino’s institutions: “I am sincerely grateful to the Institutions of the Republic of San Marino for the trust placed in me.”
