Two pedestrians were hit this afternoon in Fiorina by a car that veered off the road. Both were taken to hospital, with one of them in serious condition.
The vehicle involved is a BMW with Italian license plates. According to initial reports, the driver appears to have lost control while exiting the Fiorina roundabout in the direction of Dogana, going off the carriageway and striking the two pedestrians.
The more seriously injured of the two is currently being treated at the State Hospital (Ospedale di Stato). The second victim, whose injuries are less severe, may be transferred to the Bufalini Hospital in Cesena. The driver of the car was left almost unscathed, sustaining only minor injuries.
The downhill lane has been closed to traffic to allow for investigations, in the stretch between the former Symbol site and Serravalle. Anyone needing to travel through the area this afternoon is advised to consider alternative routes.
No official statements have yet been released regarding the exact dynamics of the accident or the condition of the injured. Story being updated.
