After the summer break, Cinema Concordia in Borgo Maggiore is reopening its doors, launching a new season of screenings, guest talks and events. The first event is scheduled for Thursday, September 24 at 9 p.m., with the presentation of the film I colori della tempesta (The Colours of the Storm), directed by Roberto Dordit. Admission will be free.
The film is inspired by the true story of Pasquale Rotondi, the young superintendent from the Marche region who, during the Second World War, led the so-called “Operazione Salvataggio” (Rescue Operation), managing to safeguard around 10,000 works of art from bombs and Nazi looting. “Among the masterpieces sheltered in the fortresses of Montefeltro were Giorgione’s The Tempest and Caravaggio’s Supper at Emmaus,” the press release states.
The Republic of San Marino also took part in the making of the film, through the collaboration of the Secretariat of State for Tourism, as part of initiatives promoting the territory and the audiovisual sector. The evening will be introduced by director Roberto Dordit, who will discuss some aspects of the production, and by Roberta Aliventi, who will delve into Rotondi’s role in the history of protecting Italy’s artistic heritage. Screenings of the film will continue until Saturday, September 26, according to the schedule.
The second event is set for Sunday, September 27 at 6 p.m., when the Concordia will host a special evening organized by the Mediateca of San Marino. The big screen will show Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands, in its original language with Italian subtitles.
The film will open the series “Fuori posto. Quando lo strano non trova posto nel mondo” (“Out of place. When the unusual finds no place in the world”), described as “a journey dedicated to characters and stories that speak of diversity, of feeling out of step, and of the difficulty of finding one’s place in the world.” The series will continue afterwards at the Fiorentino Social Centre. At the end of the screening, a small reception will be offered to celebrate the resumption of the Mediateca’s activities. Admission will also be free for this event.
Starting Monday, September 28 at 9 p.m., new theatrical releases will return with Tony – Diario di un giovane cuoco (Tony: Diary of a Young Chef), directed by Matt Johnson and starring Dominic Sessa, Antonio Banderas and Leo Woodall. Set in the summer of 1975, the film tells the story of the youth of Anthony Bourdain, the American chef and writer who became one of the most celebrated storytellers of food, travel and culture.
“The season will continue in the coming weeks with new titles and premieres,” the press release adds. Among the announced films are Practical Magic 2, marking the return of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the Owens sisters, and Disney’s new live-action Moana.
