1,018 signatures to ask for one simple thing: air conditioning in San Marino’s schools.
A group of parents collected them and today, September 23, sent them to Secretary of State for Education Teodoro Lonfernini and Education Department Director Emanuele D’Amelio, with a clear goal: adequate temperatures in school buildings ahead of summer 2027.
In a country of just over thirty thousand people, a thousand signatures are no small statistic.
They represent a slice of the community that mobilized on its own, with shops and individual citizens volunteering as collection points without anyone asking them to.
And this isn’t just about comfort.
Anyone who has spent a June afternoon in a sun-baked classroom knows that at thirty degrees Celsius, you don’t learn — you just endure. With children, students, teachers and staff inside, the parents chose the right words: wellbeing and safety.
The ball is now in the Secretariat’s court.
There’s still time to be ready for summer 2027, provided no one waits until June to notice.

The parents’ group expresses great satisfaction for the overwhelming number of signatures collected in support of the request to install air conditioning in San Marino’s schools.
We wish to thank everyone who supported the initiative, as well as the shops and individual citizens who made themselves available to concretely contribute to the signature collection.
A total of 1,018 signatures were gathered, a significant number that clearly demonstrates a need felt by many families and by the community at large.
Today, September 23, the document, together with the collected signatures, was sent to the Secretary of State for Education, Teodoro Lonfernini, and to the Director of the Education Department, Emanuele D’Amelio.
With this petition, we hope that serious consideration will be given to the need to guarantee adequate environmental conditions within school buildings during the hottest months.
Our hope is that, ahead of summer 2027, more suitable spaces with appropriate temperatures can be secured for all the children, students and staff who will attend and work in schools during the summer period.
We once again thank everyone who contributed to this initiative and who, through their support, showed how important the issue of wellbeing and safety in school environments is to our community.
