Academy throws away two-goal lead as Vicenza storm back in four minutes

San Marino Academy held to a 2-2 draw in Grisignano di Zocco after leading 2-0 at the break

A two-goal lead built in the first half vanished within four minutes of the restart. San Marino Academy return from Grisignano di Zocco with a point: the match against Vicenza ended 2-2, a result that extends the Titans’ positive run following their win in Bologna, but leaves a few regrets given how the game had unfolded.

The Academy started in an orderly fashion, allowing the home side more of the ball but conceding little. Tamborini broke the deadlock, pouncing on a misplaced back-pass from Dezotti, skipping past Missiaggia and beating Stenlund from close range.

Piva’s side grew in confidence and doubled their lead in the 18th minute. Working from a corner-kick routine, D’Elia and Capellupo combined before picking out Barbaresi’s head with a precise delivery, and the defender made it 2-0 with her first goal in the blue-and-white shirt. Before the break it was still the Academy creating the better chances, though they couldn’t find the finishing blow.

The match changed completely after the restart. In the very first minute, Vicenza pulled one back thanks to an unfortunate deflection off Casadei as she tried to beat Ponte to the ball. Just four minutes later came the equaliser: from another corner, this time it was Ponte who volleyed home to make it 2-2.

Having absorbed the double blow, the Academy still managed to get back on track. Piva tried to change things by bringing on fresh legs from the bench, and the Titans went in search of another goal. In the closing stages, Tudisco, Gattuso and Mak all had attempts, but none found the target.

At the final whistle the score remained 2-2: another useful result for San Marino Academy, though it came after having held a two-goal cushion for the entire first half.
