Winter sports: San Marino looks to France for new opportunities for its athletes

The San Marino Winter Sports Federation explores partnerships in Grenoble and Chamrousse to expand training opportunities for athletes abroad.

The San Marino Winter Sports Federation (Federazione Sammarinese Sport Invernali) is looking to France to broaden growth opportunities for its athletes. President Gian Luca Gatti and Secretary General Bruno Guidi carried out an institutional visit between Grenoble and Chamrousse, establishing initial contacts for future sporting collaborations.

In Chamrousse, the town that hosted several events of the 1968 Winter Olympics, the delegation met with Mayor Brigitte De Bernis, Tourism Office Director Christopher Hardy, and Frédéric Geromin, the official in charge of the ski lift facilities.

Also present was Morgane Goulot, a San Marino native residing in France, a former athlete and now an alpine skiing instructor. Discussions focused on the possibility of organizing training camps, technical sessions, and competitions dedicated to athletes from the Titan.

The visit continued at the Honorary Consulate in Grenoble, where the federation’s representatives met with Consul Eliane Rastelli and Nicolas Celli, president of the San Marino community in France.

The aim is to involve San Marino children and young people living in France, introducing them to alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and other winter disciplines, with the prospect of pursuing competitive careers representing San Marino’s white and blue colors.

The Consulate and the San Marino community have pledged their support for the project, committing to promote it through other San Marino consulates across French territory as well.

The Federation concluded by thanking Eliane Rastelli, her brother René, honorary president of the community, Morgane Goulot, and San Marino cross-country skier Simon Sancet for their contributions to the initiative.
